Alenka Kreč Bricelj
She attended High School for Design and Photography and then continued her education at the Faculty of Arts, University of Ljubljana. From her student years onward, she worked as a freelance designer and coordinator for different cultural and social engagement projects. Since 2011, she has been a member of the Smetumet collective where she deals with sustainable practices, concept development and product design.
She professionally collaborates with many partners from NGO sector (Umanotera, Amnesty International, Humanitas, etc.) public sector (Municipality of Ljubljana, Soča Rehabilitation Institute, Slovenian Ethnographic Museum, etc.) as well as business sector (BTC, Sparkasse, SiMobil etc.). Two of the most prominent Smetumet projects are sustainable public space interventions called Culture Enables (European Capital of Culture Maribor 2012) and Special Needs Friends (2014-1016) which was focused on inclusion and education. She is currently employed at Zavod Oloop as Reveled Hands project coordinator.
The main objective of the project is to revive traditional handcrafts with contemporary design approach. Personal experience of life with physical impairment motivates her to connect creative, social and environmental challenges in ways that are both innovative and unusual.
